For 10 years I worked in a residential unit in London for people with severe mental health difficulties, and for 5 years after that as a trainer for the University of Wales on their Post Graduate Counselling Course.
I spent a year on sabbatical in Northern Peru, where I worked in a small community school for children from severely disadvantaged backgrounds. I ran a counselling service for the pupils, offering them the support they needed to be able to progress through school and finally graduate, their only gateway to elevating themselves into the kind of lifestyle and work that would enable them to live free of poverty.
My interest has always been about early relational experiences, subsequent attachment patterns and how the affects of these manifest in adult life: the effect of caregiver neglect on the whole life of the child/adult.
